Women are ready to take care on children, parents, household, while no one doubts any more they have ability to succeed in their careers. But a recent study concerning the competition between males and females in their workplaces proved that the reason that only few women are “in charge” of companies, is that women do not like the competitive environment, and simply avoid the competition.
Our researchers, Murel Niederle and Lisa Westerlund, having conducted role-playing games involving men and women, found that the avoidance of competition is inherent in the nature of women: women are just like that.
“Lords do not turn around, the ladies can not be silent”
Have you ever caught yourself thinking that you are referring to male colleagues, but he did not even turn with face to you, continuing doing his work? Disrespect, isn’t it? Perhaps you are right. Men are likely not agree with this statement: just men and women have got completely different styles of behavior, especially when it comes to eye contact with someone.
We hear the same thing everywhere: while passing the interview, participating in negotiations, making the presentation be sure to install eye contact with someone and hold it as long as possible, not taking his eyes away. Keep in mind, for many men long eye contact can serve as a call sign (a threat), as a result they gain a hostile attitude towards the speaker. When the two men have a conversation, they talk very well even while sitting back to back, or changing the wheel of a machine or working on the computer. For women, the same eye contact is much more: that means they are listening. And if the interviewee does not look into her eyes, a woman may think that she is ignored.
“You will find me in place WE are”
Few would argue that men and women, boys and girls behave differently. BBC conducted a study on this topic by asking the audience to tell how men and women react differently to different situations in life. It turned out, for example, that women use “we” and “us”, while men say “I” and “me”. In a difficult situation a woman would support, would give the possibility to pour the soul out, but the man immediately begin to offer concrete solutions. If a man wants to get something, he will say it explicitly. The woman will start to hint and to wait for response of interlocutor. Finally, the trip to the gym for men is an opportunity to do sports and women usually turns into an occasion for communication.
Let us get known each other closer
Of course, it is impossible to follow the book and try to build your careers on the basis of “near scientific” researches on men and women, but we want to show you some tips for communicating with the opposite sex in the workplace, which we hope will help you in business. One Australian psychologist and author of a book related to issues of gender offers men and women 10 behavioral strategies in office. You will be able to read them in next articles.

I would like to tell a little bit about my search job` experience.
When the day of my first interview came – I had to try to get the position of assistant manager in one of the missions of fairly large company. Bearing in mind all the recommendations that you should come to the interview with a perfect manicure and polished shoes, I prepared carefully. Even changed my favourite jeans to a business suit, which had hung forlornly in the closet – as it turned out, it was quite correctly – a business dress code was adopted in the company. In general, I made sure that I look presentable and confident. Arriving at the proper time, I was in a fairly spacious, but the half-empty room.
The secretary accompanied me to the office of human resources manager, and the first phase of the three, taken in their company began. It was an interview. HR manager asked me in detail about why I chose their company, where I had studied and what skills I had, she also asked several questions about the character. I was worried and so confusing, sometimes huddled together – it was terribly ashamed to me. I do not know why, but the girl liked me, and she invited me to the second phase of the current program – completion of the questionnaire. In addition to filling of fairly standard items such as the passport, I had to answer a lot about completely unnecessary, in my opinion, issues. Although there were some issues with cunning – for example, I pondered for a long time over one of the questions: “Do you speak the truth?” and there were two options – “yes” or “no”.
No, I am not a liar, but to say that I have never told a lie is also wrong. In general, I decided “to be” by selecting “yes”. Later I learned that such questions are the usual psychological trick to test applicants. Then I understood that I have got a third lesson – it is better to answer the questionnaire honestly. Firstly, good professional psychologists, who are engaged in personnel selection, may easy compute untrue answers, and secondly, you will not have to fall in an awkward situation, because you had been embellished a little. Apparently, my honesty was appreciated – I did sincerely confessed in all mortal sins (even that was often late). So, I was invited for a third interview – with the very head of the branch. He asked me the same questions as the girl at the first interview and talked about items of how good is their company and how excellent are prospects there.
The only thing he asked me to do – to prove my self-confidence, because they needed only people who were confident in their prospects. Then I asked in response with a smile whether he often saw applicants without managerial experience and education who immediately laid claim to the post of assistant manager. As a result, having laughed at a joke, he gave me a post – first three weeks of training, after which – the work. But, I would say that I did not work in the firm – my eyes came across a semi-annual announcement of limitation, in which the company is still looking for assistant manager. A work in companies where staff turnover is so fast is more like a seasonal one. And it did not match one of my points, which sounded as follows: “My work should be permanent”.

Sooner or later, every one is faced with an issue like the work search. Some people change jobs on their own, but someone – because of the current circumstances. But we are all united by one thing – one way or another we buy a newspaper with want ads, job openings, or scan the specific pages in the Internet.
I am no an exception – I also had to get acquainted with the charms of job search and even learn from these lessons as everyone else. Perhaps it is necessary to start from point when I had to decide what I see my future job like – what I wanted to work as, a schedule to have, as well as – most importantly – how much I was going to earn. Having correctly assessed my capabilities, I came to the conclusion that I need a permanent job, but with a flexible schedule, or, in extreme cases, part-time. Having felt some that from any work of this kind I would get at least 300 but not more than 500 dollars per month, I went in the search of concrete vacancies.
All ads pasted on poles and handouts in the subway were wisely ignored by me – the prospect of “getting 4000 dollars per month, without any special effort” did not fascinate me. Even then I learned the first rule of job search – nobody pays money for nothing. Do not believe in the illusion that you’ll sit and spit at the ceiling and will be paid for it then. It does not happen, and if happens, it is not with us but with some Don Pedro who is in Mexican series.
So I decided to start looking for employment with newspapers, like the very old, tested and proven method. Asking in a newspaper kiosk all available newspapers, where you can find ads with vacancies, I proudly went off to study pile of newspapers and magazines. In the end of a day, I chose the job in such professions – all sorts of managers, assistant manager, promoters, sales consultants, a mysterious “earnings” and, pressed in a lonely corner such proposal “reporter required “. As a result, I had 17 vacancies for the first time.
Having written all of them on a separate sheet of paper – in order to to make notes about a particular job easier, as well as to point out, to whom I have already called and who is not – I went to ring up my prospective employers. I got a hold of approximately 15 people – numbers of two of pointed before did not exist, as I got known from a woman with an ATE. If speak about those 15, under various reasons I did not fit about 7 of employers – because of the age, sex, no required experience or special education. Another 4 did not fit me – they wanted me to be in the office from 8 a.m. till 4 p.m. despite the fact that it was stated in the announcement that the staff they need would be for part-time. And I did not want it.
So I was left with 4 careers, where I was invited for an interview – 2 vacancies of manager, assistant manager and journalist. Then I learned the second lesson in work search – about 75 per cent of vacancies are blank shot for one reason or another. In fact, this is normal – when you do not fit someone and someone does not fit you. Point is not to dwell on this after the first unproductive call, and remember that the list of phones has got plenty of rooms, and you will find work with one of them. Not today, but may be tomorrow.

Many young people aspire to independence and just having entered to the college they find some job. They have the main purpose here – to make money, not to take it from their parents. But where and how they would work is a secondary issue. How such experience may affect the subsequent career?
Most companies promise career prospects of cosmic proportions to their young employees. But the reward system is built quite cleverly in large organizations. Young staff are tried be motivated for prolonged labor relations by every way. Almost any student who has held out in one place for a year and a half and has managed to show himself from the advantageous side has the career prospects. However, the very career is so tortuous that sometimes it is difficult to understand what the next advancement is. For example, many organizations divide the junior staff into categories (according to its intra-graduation).
A young man comes to get fixed up in a job as a seller. He starts as an intern, then is promoted to sales assistant of the third category, in a few months of the second one, then – of the first one. He is given a raise each time has a new advancement. It is small advancement, but still. Employee is happy. He is pleased; he feels that he is appreciated highly. And what is the core of such advancement? He was a seller-consultant, so he keeps on to be the seller. After some time would have gone, he may become a senior seller, and then, if lucky, he will become the staff training manager or instructor. Young professionals have already tend to forget about their diploma, because achieved skills are not related to their education.
Most hr specialists of large companies say that only “their” employees are promoted for top-end positions; those are promoted who have passed through all stages of career, who knows the company inside. But in fact, we can not find too many examples when ordinary employees become top managers. Would the company’s board of managers transfer a former seller, who has finally received the long-awaited diploma, into the position of a lawyer or an accountant? After all, such posts tend to be hired on with the people who have got experience in the specialty. Therefore student underworking often turns out in the situation when those who have been loyal to “their” shop or cafe, remain to be a salesperson or waiter. Or they look for a new job within their specialty. And previous experience does not help them and even hinder sometimes.
At the same time, those who have not been so loyal to their employers, and those who preferred to retire before each session also have got a difficult situation. By the end of high school 5-6 places of work in different fields ranging from 2 to 6 months each are pointed in their work book. Cautious HR will decide that a candidate can not sit at one place. And in the end of a day, the desire to make money “all the same where and how” may later turn out to young professionals to greater difficulties in finding of “adult” work.

Regardless of whether a person changes jobs, goes to the service after a career break or just starts his/her career path, he/she always feels the excitement and anxiety. Unpredictability of the situation causes the greatest stress. To avoid unnecessary experience, applicant must be aware well of all the steps that has to go through.
The process is often preceded by a termination of employment relations with previous employer. While dismissing, we often break off all ties, believing that we are starting a new life. But the decision is premature sometimes. Your further career depends on how you have left the company as many working relationships can be very useful in the future. If you have parted with the employer by mutual agreement, it is likely to continue good relations themselves, but it happens that the dismissal is accompanied by unpleasant circumstances. Is it worth trying to correct something? Absolutely! You were underpaid, your ideas have not been valued, unkind atmosphere prevailed in a team, didn’t it? It happens that there are a lot of reasons for the mutual claims, but is no longer important at the moment of the statement of dismissal and final clearance signing. We can assume that all passions are subsided, all I’s ands are doted and it is right time, as they say, to remain friends. Ask your boss to provide you with reference letter, get permission to give the coordinates of your boss to new employer. If you have not had a fair number of serious sins, you are unlikely to refuse. By the way, it would be better to make the text of the letter in advance so that your master does not have to waste time on it. Former clients can be as guarantors, especially in case they were satisfied with you. Remember: the more good feedback you have, the higher the probability of successful employment.
Before searching, you need to figure out what kind of job you are looking for. When start, try to comprehend the reason for leaving of the previous place. Sometimes people do not want to notice that a certain type of activity does not fit him, or chooses the firm with management style, which is not consistent with his principles. All this contributes to the fact that time after time employment relationship is not formed. Try to remember your claims to previous employers and imagine such a company where you would like to stay for long. Are you interested in a large holding company with a clear structure and hierarchy, or, conversely, a small, almost family-run business, where the friendly atmosphere is? And maybe you will choose a promising growing organization, where there is a chance to prove yourself and subsequently become one of the leaders. Decide what you like: a quiet place or a company, where life is bubbling and you have to constantly defend your right to be a member of the team. Think about what you would like to see your colleagues like: what are their interests and aspirations. Who will you become in a team – leader, follower, or simply an equal companion? And, of course, do not forget to imagine future master: what kind of man is he, what he appreciates in his subordinates?

“Free lunches” for the employer
Employment Agencies, which, in contrast to recruiting ones, offer free services to employers, of course, attract the latter, but is these “lunches” free? Imagine the situation: you are a big boss. A rather good candidate for the post sits in front of you at the negotiating table, and you are going to offer him lucrative work as your subordinate. He looks great, speaks even better, a resume is colored with the names of famous companies. But you feel some problem. Uncertainty creeps into the subconscious, intuition responds by weak stab in the heart, you are pushing back the sudden rush of confidence to the candidate, get up and stretch out a hand and …

We can speak about such devotions within the traditions of Catholic Church as:
1. Baptism: babies are baptized in the faith of parents and godparents, who must educate the child in the Christian faith. When adults need to be baptized they must be specially prepared be taking the sacrament. During such training person must be told and informed about the tenets of the faith, a man have to get known about the Church’s life and duties of a Christian. Baptism is committed by a priest or bishop. Before the baptism, the candidate renounces Satan and reads the Creed. Typically, baptism is conducted with sprinkling. After the baptism is finished, the newly baptized should be anointed with St. world that is not the sacrament of anointing and must be robed in a white robe and hand a lighted candle. White clothing is a symbol of investment in Christ, a burning candle – a symbol of light and truth.
2. Communion: First Communion usually takes place in 7 – 12 years, anointing is conducted in adolescence. When the commission sacraments the Catholic Church uses unleavened bread, because Catholics will recall that it is unleavened bread, which was distributed to the apostles during the Last Supper by Jesus Christ. Believers traditionally partake with undiluted wine. This tradition of using water and wine dates back to the Roman Bishop Alexander (105 – 115), who had in mind the words of the Gospel of John: “… one of the soldiers pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.” The blood symbolizes the sacrament of communion, and water – the sacrament of baptism.
3. Ordination: only bishop has the right to the sacrament of ordination. There is no consecratory formula in the rite of this sacrament, and such elements as laying hands of the bishop on the candidate and the prayer of invocation of the Holy Spirit are the main elements of the rite (hence the ordination). After the sacrament, ordained goes down before the altar in the form of a cross as a sign of humility and a life dedicated to Christ.
4. Confession that is strictly obligatory for all Catholics once a year. With a grave sin on ones conscience before confession communion can not begin. Confession of sins is usually conducted in a special booth, called the confessional, which is constructed in such a way that the priest had the opportunity to hear the confession, but is unable to see the person of professes.
5. Marriage that means the sacrament of blessing the bride and groom, who have shown their desire to live together as husband and wife, during further life. The institution of marriage established by God: (The New Testament, Matthew 19:5-7).
